Congenital idiocy in the British upper classes generally is the product of centuries of careless inbreeding and cultivated obtuseness, but a current case, that of Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild, formerly de New Jersey, seems to present a case of transfer by marriage. In the short time that Justwordz has been posting he has already had occasion to comment on Lady Lynn’s calculated intervention into the tense atmosphere of campaign 2008. Everybody’s favorite former Hillraiser and McCain defector has now expanded on her comments alleging Sen. Obama’s elitism.

“Barack Obama went and called the people who have guns and cling to their religion bitter,” de Rothschild told CNN’s Campbell Brown. “The people out – who are the rednecks or whatever – are bitter.” Lady L and the bitter rednecks….

Her ladyship says she’ll be spending much of her time between now and Election Day campaigning for McCain. If she brings her act and her soapbox away from Nob Hill, Greenwich Conn. and the Upper East Side where McCain might let her loose, Justwordz promises to watch her bring good cheer to the bitter folk of Appalachia and Flyoverville. We know her heart is in the right place and we will show that large inherited wealth, social position and special access need not be a barrier between TRUE and definitely NOT ELITIST and NOT BITTER down home folks. “Toothless Croquet Moms for McCain” Justwordz’s banner will read.

Although justwordz has yet to make a formal endorsement himself, which he will be doing at Washington’s exclusive Mayflower hotel, or failing that at the US Capitol, he notes with interest the defection of an erstwhile, and it must be said, hitherto tepid, supporter of the junior senator from Illinois reported on CNN.com.

Now trust, as they say, is a two way street, and perhaps Senator Obama can be forgiven for not extending a wholeheartedly warm embrace to her Ladyship. Justwordz has himself experienced social awkwardness with people who have announced in the press that they did not like him and who could not hide that distaste in front of total strangers and reporters.

Her Ladyship’s charge of elitism is an interesting one. For all those wondering if an elitism charge is an appropriate one, a helpful Elitestor (TM) tool is provided after the link article.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter and member of the Democratic National Committee’s Platform Committee, will endorse John McCain for president on Wednesday, her spokesman tells CNN.

The announcement will take place at a news conference on Capitol Hill, just blocks away from the DNC headquarters. Forester will “campaign and help him through the election,” the spokesman said of her plans to help the Republican presidential nominee.

Forester was a major donor for Clinton earning her the title as a Hillraiser for helping to raise at least $100,000 for the New York Democratic senator’s failed presidential bid.

In an interview with CNN this summer, Forester did not hide her distaste for eventual Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

“This is a hard decision for me personally because frankly I don’t like him,” she said of Obama in an interview with CNN’s Joe Johns. “I feel like he is an elitist. I feel like he has not given me reason to trust him.”

Forester is the CEO of EL Rothschild, a holding company with businesses around the world. She is married to international banker Sir Evelyn de Rothschild. Forester is a member of the DNC’s Democrats Abroad chapter and splits her time living in London and New York.

The Elitestor (TM):

You should probably NOT make an elitism charge if:

Members of your remote family ancestry were involved in financing wars among the great powers on opposite sides.

The menfolk in your family have names that might be mistaken for the names of womenfolk by the common folk – for example: Leslie, Maria, Evelyn, or Angelina

Your residence status is signaled by a non-proletarian preposition. For example – I live IN Gary Indiana – OK. I live BETWEEN Monte Carlo and Gstaad – Very likely suspect.

1/3 might get you by the sniff test if you combine the score with ostentatious reticence. Anything else and you’re in for trouble.

Follow Up – It seems her ladyship’s defection has drawn other comment. Pithily – Mickey Kaus on Slate puts it: ” You lost me at ‘de.’“ Olbermann even has her as the worst person in the world. Oh dear, off with their heads.

Now that she is with the Republicans she can learn a thing or two. The Bushes, for example, are masters at the game. George HW Bush (Philips Academy, Yale) very publicly claimed a predilection for pork rinds and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, or as he put it the “Nitty Ditty Nitty Gritty Great Bird.”
